Cheap Bonsai Pots, Nice Looking Inexpensive Bonsai Pots
Bonsai as a hobby can be very expensive! After buying all the tools you need, the trees you want, bonsai soil, bonsai pots, etc. Chances are you are racking up a pretty good sized bill.
I love to bonsai trees, but the cost of it is just a little more that I can afford right now. After all, I am just “Trying to Get By!”
So I came up with yet another way to make some bonsai pots, that look nice, and won’t break the bank!
All you need is those cheap plastic (polyurethane) bonsai pots, and a can of spray paint. The plastic pots aren’t the most appealing bonsai pots because of their color, but their shape and size are not bad to start some bonsai trees in. And you can get a pack of these plastic pots for really cheap compared to buying the traditional terracotta bonsai pots.
So After I get a the plastic bonsai pots, Ill just go pick up a can of spray paint. Ill select a color that I like, or that I think will look good with the trees that I will be planting in it. Then I will just spray paint the outside of these pots and it completely transforms them from the cheap looking plastic pots to a nice colored/custom pot!
You may want to spray a clear coat on after painting it. This will help prevent the paint from chipping off especially if it is outdoors.
Try experimenting with different colors and flat or glossy clear coats. These may end up being your new favorite bonsai pots!
Make Your Own Bonsai Pot, Making Cheap Bonsai Pots with Found Objects, Use Household Objects for Bonsai Pots
Bonsai Pots can be very expensive, and I don’t have the money to buy them right now in this poor economic state… So I have been trying to put together a list of found objects, and household materials that would work well as bonsai pots instead of buying overpriced ceramic pots.
Most of these items can be found around your house, or at a garage sale for VERY cheap! But, a lot of them will not allow for drainage, so you will just need to drill some holes in the bottom which is not difficult to do.
Below are a list of some great solutions to overpriced bonsai pots, and will give your garden a fun and unique look! Not to mention it will cut down on old unwanted things that may just get thrown into landfills.
Here is a list of some great Alternatives for Bonsai Pots:
- Shallow Wooden Bowl
- Small Shallow Serving Bowl (See picture below – Found this one at Cost Plus World Market)
- Wooden Platter
- Wooden Basket, (Lined so soil wont fall out, but make a few holes for drainage)
- Shallow Metal Pot, Pan or skillet (Just remove the handle)
- Coconut Shell (See picture below – I got this coconut shell already cut perfectly in half from Island Way Sobet Desert – http://www.islandwaysorbet.com)
- Bottom of an Old Metal Pitcher
- Small Shallow Serving bowl
- Pie Tin
- Casserole Dishes
I am going to continue to post more found object that are great for making cheap bonsai pots when i come across them. Also, feel free to post any that you may come across or have used!
